Joining our Senior Management Team here at SFJ Awards in May 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, our Head of Awards and Assessment Services John Clark certainly hit the ground running and has not stopped since.
Bringing with him great insight and expertise from his career within the field of vocational education and training, most recently within other awarding organisations, we are thrilled to have welcomed John at such a significant time for our sector.
Candace Miller, Managing Director, SFJ Awards says: “We are absolutely delighted that John has joined us and to welcome him to the SFJ Awards’ team. The experience and insights John brings are inspiring and will be of immense value as we continue on our mission, as a trusted, sector-specialist awarding organisation, to increase confidence in the learning and development of those who provide services for public benefit.”
During his career, John has worked across a wide range of Awarding Bodies sector skill areas, varying from Construction and Engineering, Education and Training, to Sports and Physical activity. The majority of these are specialist employer-recognised awarding organisations providing vocational qualifications and apprenticeship components to the engineering, manufacturing, building services and physical activity sectors.
John has also worked closely with many UK regulatory bodies, including: Department for Education, Education and Skills Funding Agency, Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education and the Universities and Colleges Admission Service.
Working in partnership with Mind, the mental health charity, John project managed the development of a bespoke e-learning programme, ‘Mental Health Awareness for Sport and Physical Activity’, which increases knowledge and understanding of mental health and provides learners with the practical skills and strategies to build people’s resilience, self-esteem and confidence; adapt sessions to make them more inclusive; enable and support mental health recovery; and tackle stigma and discrimination.
Previously in his role as Business Support & Quality Manager John successfully led the implementation of a quality management system which gained ISO 9001:2008 certification at the first attempt and in a manner which enabled all staff to be involved and fully contribute their knowledge of specialist areas.
John says: “Joining SFJ Awards at a time when there was increasing uncertainty due to the impact of COVID-19 on the UK, has provided me with the opportunity to see at first hand the innovation and adaptations introduced to support rapidly evolving customer and stakeholder needs. I feel proud and honoured that SFJ Awards have identified skills and values which will complement the experience in the team and enable our continued growth as the sector specialist awarding organisation.”
