Qualifying new police recruits: consultation opens on new diploma

The SFJ Awards Level 5 Diploma in Professional Policing Practice, which will be the regulated qualification available for those entering the workforce through the Police Constable Entry Programme (PCEP), is now open for consultation.

PCEP offers recruits the opportunity to get hands-on and work alongside experienced police officers on the ground, blending in-house learning with training on the job. This new qualification is therefore intended to provide robust and nationally regulated recognition of the achievements of PCEP entrants, which started intake in April 2024.

The qualification has been developed and designed based on the College of Police’s PCEP curriculum through expert working groups, with participation from police forces, training providers and subject matter experts.

About the qualification:

The curriculum is based in the practicalities of the role of a constable and the key operational areas of response, investigation, community policing, intelligence and protecting the public. To achieve this qualification learners must achieve all 10 mandatory units.
