New commercial fire sprinkler installation qualification now open for consultation

A consultation has been launched for a Level 2 Certificate in Fire Sprinkler Installation (Commercial) qualification. This has been developed in response to industry demand for a recognised programme of training and assessment in commercial fire sprinkler installation, supporting a competent workforce that can deliver safe, reliable and compliant installations.

It will join a suite of approved fire sprinkler qualifications developed by SFJ Awards, including the Level 2 Certificate in Fire Sprinkler Installation (Domestic and Residential) standard which was released in 2024.

About the qualification

The proposed SFJ Awards Level 2 Certificate in Fire Sprinkler Installation (Commercial) develops the knowledge and workplace competence needed to install commercial fire sprinkler systems safely, correctly, and in line with relevant standards and compliance requirements.

The qualification aims to ensure that learners can:

  • carry out pre-installation checks
  • follow health and safety and organisational compliance requirements
  • communicate effectively on site
  • install pipework and associated components
  • identify and rectify faults under supervision
  • complete system integrity and handover procedures within the limits of their role.

We’re calling on the fire safety industry to respond to the consultation, reviewing and feedback on the qualification units and learning outcomes to assess how well they meet the sector’s needs.

The consultation is now open and will be accepting responses until 23 March 2026.
