We’re delighted to welcome to our team, Quality Assurance and Assessment Manager Paul Kelly who joined SFJ Awards in 2020.
Joining our Senior Management Team, Paul works alongside SFJ Awards colleagues to provide strategic direction and leadership, with key responsibilities for quality assurance and compliance, supporting the delivery of industry-leading qualifications for Centres.
Prior to joining SFJ Awards, Paul was the Assessment Design Manager at NCFE CACHE where he had responsibility for all qualification and assessment design and production processes of vocational and technical qualifications.
Paul has worked in education for over 20 years, progressing from secondary school teacher and departmental head to lecturer and team leader in Further Education and Higher Education. He’s also spent many years as a chief examiner and principal moderator for GCSE, both writing exams and managing teams of examiners and coursework moderators.
With a successful history in qualification and assessment design, production, and delivery, Paul is well-versed in the principles of assessment and ensuring validity and reliability, including making sure qualifications and assessments are appealing to learners and employers and are manageable for those delivering the qualification.
Paul has a history of being accountable for compliance with regulatory conditions relating to qualification assessment and for ensuring that appropriate criteria are met for funding and recognition, in addition to setting and maintaining standards in academic and vocational and technical qualifications. Paul is experienced in leading and managing on the key assessment areas of quality assurance procedures, policies and strategies.
To further study the science of assessment, Paul has recently completed his MSc in Psychology, successfully researching how psychology can be applied to pedagogy and assessment and how quantitative analysis can be applied to ensure validity and reliability. For his final year research project, he investigated if trait emotional intelligence can predict academic achievement.
Outside of work, Paul is a keen reader of books, both general literature and science fiction and he looks forward to watching his son play rugby each weekend. He enjoys listening to a wide variety of music and in his spare time he likes to make his own electronic music using software and synthesizers.
Here at SFJ Awards, we can support all stages of the assessment process including planning, implementing, recording and reviewing assessment. We can also help with establishing, reviewing and improving quality assurance procedures.
