This new SFJ Awards Level 2 Award in Fire & Rescue Service – Working with Children and Young People is being developed in collaboration with the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC). The qualification will be made available to any staff or volunteers who will work with children and young people as part of their role within the fire and rescue services (FRS) and will form part of the induction programme.
The UK fire and rescue services provide a multitude of different educational sessions and interventions for children and young people. It is recognised by the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) that the FRS staff and volunteers delivering this important work should have the ability to access training which will enable them to carry out these activities with the appropriate level of skill and knowledge.
Having specific qualifications will enhance the training portfolio for FRS, leading to better outcomes for services, employees, and volunteers and most importantly, the children and young people accessing fire and rescue service activities and programmes.
Developing this new qualification will provide an excellent opportunity for anyone working within the FRS with children and young people to gain recognition for the fantastic and beneficial work that they do, providing a professional pathway for development and progression.
This qualification will be designed for staff and volunteers who work at differing levels with children and young people and will include areas such as child development, youth work, understanding challenging behaviour, ACES and trauma, communication, neurodiversity, and other relevant content.
The consultation is open for fire and rescue service feedback. If you’d like to find out more and provide a response, please get in touch by emailing QualificationsTeam@sfjawards.com or complete the form below to be sent information.
The consultation closes on 4 October.
