New qualification open for consultation
A new qualification is being developed after overlaps were highlighted between the existing Level 3 Award in First Person on the Scene Support and the Level 3 Award in Casualty Care for Fire and Rescue Services.
Building on the foundations of these, the new Level 3 Award in Pre-Hospital Immediate Casualty Care aims to consolidate and enhance the skills needed in pre-hospital casualty care situations.
About the qualification
This qualification is designed for individuals working or preparing to work in first response environments, such as event medical teams, security roles, community responders, and emergency services. It enables learners to operate confidently within a clinically governed framework and to work effectively alongside both registered and non-registered healthcare professionals.
It is designed to align with the Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) competencies at Level D.
Aims of this qualification
The qualification aims to equip learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to provide safe and effective immediate care prior to the arrival of a qualified clinician. It builds core competencies in areas such as:
- scene safety
- casualty assessment
- basic life support
- initial management of a wide range of traumatic and medical emergencies.
