New ‘refresher’ qualifications for the security sector

From 1 April 2025, SIA licence holders must have a ‘refresher’ qualification before they can renew their door supervisor or security guard licence.

SFJ Awards have developed new refresher training qualifications, which will be available from 1 October 2024 and can be completed over the course of a few days. These refresher qualifications update safety-critical skills for door supervisors and security guards to use to keep the public safe.

The two new ‘refresher’ qualifications we’ve developed are:

  • SFJ Awards Level 2 Award for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry (Refresher) (610/4730/2)
  • SFJ Awards Level 2 Award for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry (Refresher) (610/4731/4)

The refresher qualifications will replace the current ‘Top Up’ qualifications:

  • SFJ Awards Level 2 Award for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry (Top Up) (603/7337/4)
  • SFJ Awards Level 2 Award for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry (Top Up) (603/7338/6)

The last date for registrations for these two qualifications is 30 November 2024. The last date for certifications is 28 February 2025.

The new refresher qualifications are being put in place to ensure operatives refresh and reinforce their skills in safety-critical areas and learn up to date content on spiking and terror threat awareness. For more information about these changes, visit the SIA website.

SFJ Awards are a nationally recognised and regulated awarding organisation, with expertise in developing qualifications to support the professionalisation of the security sector. Find out more about the security qualifications we offer.
