At SFJ Awards, everything we do is driven by a simple but powerful vision:
Improving lives, with better skills and better jobs, leading to better services.
This vision is shared across our parent group, The Workforce Development Trust.
Our qualifications help frontline professionals in fire and rescue, policing, prisons and probation, and the security sector develop the skills they need to protect the public, support communities and deliver safer services.
To keep those qualifications strong, trusted and regulated to the highest standards, we rely on expert, independent voices – people like you.
Join our Quality & Standards Committee
We are seeking passionate and knowledgeable volunteers to join our Quality & Standards Committee (QSC). This is your opportunity to influence the standards that underpin some of the most important public service roles in the UK.
The QSC ensures our qualifications are:
- High‑quality
- Fair and reliable
- Compliant with UK regulatory requirements
- Reflective of real‑world practice in high‑risk, high‑trust sectors
Your insight helps ensure that every learner from new recruits to experienced practitioners, receives a qualification that is robust, meaningful and respected.
Why your expertise matters
The professions we serve depend on competent, confident people – whether it’s an emergency responder arriving on scene or a security professional keeping people safe, the quality of their training has a direct impact on public safety.
By joining the QSC, you will help us:
- Strengthen assessment and qualification standards
- Monitor quality across our centres
- Respond effectively to emerging risks
- Ensure fairness, transparency, and integrity
- Support continuous improvement across the awarding organisation
This is a chance to make a meaningful contribution to the quality of services that safeguard the public every day.
Who we’re looking for
We welcome interest from individuals with experience in one or more of the below:
- Assessment, qualification design, or awarding organisations
- Fire and rescue services
- Policing, or justice services
- Security and SIA‑regulated provision
If you share our commitment to improving lives through better skills, your voice will make a valuable addition to our committee.
Making a positive impact
Members are appointed for a three‑year term. Meetings take place quarterly online, with papers provided in advance.
This is a rewarding, purposeful role where your expertise helps shape qualifications that support safer, stronger services across the UK.
