Level 3 Diploma in the Management and Care of Individuals in Custody or Detention

Operational Start Date: 1 August 2020

The objective of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills required to work in a custody or detention environment. The qualification aims to cover all custody and detention environments, including all categories of prisons, escorting and young offender institutions.

To achieve the qualification learners must complete eight mandatory units:

  • Working in Custody or Detention Environments
  • Security in Custody or Detention Environments
  • Searching within Custody or Detention Environments
  • Managing a Safe and Healthy Custody or Detention Environment
  • Understanding and Managing Potential Conflict in Custody or Detention Environments
  • Reporting in Custody or Detention Environments
  • Supporting Vulnerable Individuals in Custody or Detention Environments
  • Rehabilitative Culture within Custody or Detention Environments

Total Qualification Time: 430 hours

Guided Learning: 280 hours

This qualification is an updated version of, and will replace, the Level 3 Diploma in the Management and Care of Individuals in the Custodial Environment (601/5367/2).

Pre-entry Requirements

There are no pre-entry requirements to undertake this qualification.  However, learners will need to be working in a custody or detention environment to be able to generate evidence from the workplace.
