What are the objectives for the Level 3 Award in Pre-Hospital Immediate Casualty Care (PICC) Qualification?
The objective of this qualification is to provide learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to provide safe and effective immediate care prior to the arrival of a qualified clinician. It builds core competencies in scene safety, casualty assessment, basic life support, and the initial management of a wide range of traumatic and medical emergencies, in line with UK pre-hospital care guidance.
This qualification is designed for individuals working or preparing to work in first response environments, such as event medical teams, security roles, community responders, and emergency services. It enables learners to operate confidently within a clinically governed framework and to work effectively alongside both registered and non-registered healthcare professionals.
The qualification is based on the Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) competencies at Level D.
What are the pre-entry requirements for the Level 3 Award in Pre-Hospital Immediate Casualty Care (PICC)?
There are no pre-entry requirements for this qualification. However, centres must ensure that learners are able to complete this qualification, for example, through completing a skills scan to ensure they can work at the appropriate level.
Replacement Qualification
This new qualification replaces the SFJ Awards Level 3 Award in First Person on Scene Support (603/3964/0) and SFJ Awards Level 3 Award in Casualty Care for Fire and Rescue Services (603/1435/7). Please view the corresponding pages for each of these qualifications for withdrawal information.
