What are the objectives for the SFJ Awards Level 3 Certificate in Fire Safety (Fire Auditors) Qualification?
The objective of this qualification is to provide support to a range of individuals who have responsibility for undertaking fire safety audits in simple premises. This includes Fire Safety Advisors, who work with businesses to help them keep people, premises, and the environment safe from fire by offering advice and education to reduce risk. People in this role may be employed by a Fire and Rescue Service or they may work for an organisation in the public, private or not for profit sector.
‘Simple premises’ are defined in the Competence Framework for Fire Safety Regulators:
Small premises with a simple layout such as small shops, offices or industrial units with non-complex means of escape and simultaneous evacuation conforming to a recognised code of practice e.g. Approved Document B or the guidance contained in the documents published by the relevant Government departments to support legislative requirements. Simple premises may range from low to high-risk dependent upon the use, management and maintenance of the premises.
What are the pre-entry requirements for the SFJ Awards Level 3 Certificate in Fire Safety (Fire Auditors) Qualification?
Centres must carry out an initial assessment or skills scan before enrolment to confirm that learners are able to work at Level 3 and meet the demands of the programme.
It is recommended centres consider the following skills and experience when enrolling learners for the qualification:
- an existing role, placement or development pathway linked to fire safety, fire auditing or fire safety inspection activity
- relevant knowledge, skills or experience that will support progression into fire safety practice
- access to appropriate learning opportunities, workplace evidence or supervised practice during delivery
Where a learner does not meet the above expectations, the centre must record and justify how the learner will be supported to meet the demands of the qualification without reducing assessment standards.
Achievement of this qualification on its own does not demonstrate occupational competence as a Fire Safety Auditor. Competence must be evidenced through appropriate workplace experience, supervised practice, ongoing professional development and any relevant organisational authorisation.
Replacement Qualification
This qualification will replace the existing SFJ Awards Level 3 Certificate in Fire Safety (Fire Auditors) (600/8395/5).
