Help shape new qualifications for Passive Fire Protection Design

SFJ Awards is working with the Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) and an industry working group to develop two new qualifications for people undertaking detailed passive fire protection design activities:

  • SFJ Awards Level 5 Certificate in Passive Fire Protection Design
  • SFJ Awards Level 5 Extended Certificate in Passive Fire Protection Design

We have now launched a consultation, providing an opportunity for people with relevant sector knowledge and experience to review the proposed qualifications and help ensure they are fit for purpose.

The consultation will seek feedback on areas including the purpose and structure of the qualifications, the draft unit content, qualification and unit levels, assessment methods, assessor and internal quality assurance requirements, and whether the qualifications are fit for purpose.

Developing specialist design knowledge and skills

The proposed qualifications are intended to provide formal recognition of the knowledge and skills required to undertake detailed passive fire protection design activities, including both descriptive and prescriptive design.

They are primarily aimed at technical specialists working within passive fire protection manufacturers and contractors who undertake design work relating to the products or systems their organisation manufactures or installs.

The consultation will help ensure the qualifications accurately reflect the knowledge and skills required for these activities and the needs of the sector.

Have your say

If you have knowledge or experience of passive fire protection design, we’d like to hear your views on the proposed qualifications.

Your feedback will help SFJ Awards, ASFP and the industry working group review the qualifications before they are finalised.

The consultation opens on 5 October and closes on 19 October 2026.
