SFJ Awards has expanded its qualification offering with the introduction of the Level 5 Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment, available for delivery from 1 August 2026.
The new Level 5 Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment is available for delivery from 1 August 2026, and completes SFJ Awards’ fire risk assessment suite. This qualification pathway provides clear progression from levels 3 through to 5 for practitioners at every stage of their professional development.
Designed for practitioners working, or looking to work, at an advanced level, the Level 5 Diploma builds on the knowledge and skills developed through the Level 3 and Level 4 qualifications. It is aligned to BS 8674:2025 and supports the development and validation of advanced competence in carrying out consistent, proportionate and defensible fire risk assessments across a wide range of premises, including more complex and higher-risk environments.
The qualification has also been developed to reflect the growing focus on professional competence, quality and consistency across the fire safety sector following the Building Safety Act 2022 and wider post-Grenfell reforms.
Following its launch, it will be submitted to BAFE for inclusion on the SP205 Qualification Register in line with the other qualifications in fire risk assessment.
With the addition of the Level 5 Diploma, SFJ Awards now offers a comprehensive fire risk assessment qualification suite:
- Level 3 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment
- Level 4 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment
- Level 4 Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment
- Level 5 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment
- Level 5 Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment (new)
This progression enables training providers and employers to support learners as they develop from foundational knowledge through to advanced professional practice.
How can centres offer this qualification?
Existing centres can apply for approval to deliver the new qualification.
New centres will need to become an approved SFJ Awards centre. They will also need to apply for approval to deliver this qualification.
