The role of an Incident Commander in Fire and Rescue Services is crucial in managing emergencies and ensuring the safety of both the public and their fellow firefighters. Incident Managers must act quickly to assess the situation and prioritise the response efforts accordingly.
As incident commanders carry a high degree of responsibility, the training and qualifications required to do this role must be equally rigorous.
At SFJ Awards, we understand the importance of getting the training to develop incident commanders right. That’s why we’ve developed a new SFJ Awards Level 4 Award in Designing and Delivering Incident Command Training. The new Level 4 Award replaces the previous Level 5, qualification and is designed to enable Fire & Rescue Services to deliver training more efficiently and effectively whilst making it more relevant and achievable for fire and rescue staff.
The new Level 4 Award has been developed in collaboration with sector experts, including the Fire Service College, K Lamb Associates, Peter Stanley Training, Sim Trainer and Artemis Training.
Katherine Lamb, Company Director at K Lamb Associates LTD comments:
“Learners will be much better equipped to design and deliver incident command training at their own fire and rescue service following the introduction of this streamlined qualification. Incident command is not only central to modern firefighting it is also constantly evolving which is why it is crucial that training design and delivery is refreshed to keep pace with developments in the field.
Simon Ellershaw, Lead Instructor, Incident Command Department at the Fire Service College:
“With demand for Fire & Rescue Services ever greater, there is a pressing need to design and deliver robust training at pace and at scale that is accessible to all. I therefore welcome the introduction of this new Level 4 Award which will help to expand incident command training across the board.”
The Level 4 Award in in Designing and Delivering Incident Command Training currently offered by specialist accredited training providers.
