We’re pleased to announce that Sancus Solutions, have become the first organisation in the U.K. to achieve SFJ Awards approval to deliver the Level 5 Award in Investigating Serious Incidents In Healthcare qualification.
A national review by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has found that the NHS is missing opportunities to learn from patient deaths and that specialised training and support is not universally provided to staff completing investigations.
The qualification was launched together with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and SFJ Awards to ensure staff recognise and develop the knowledge and skills required for investigating serious incidents in healthcare. The new qualification is aimed at staff who are involved in investigating serious incidents in healthcare. This collaborative development has also involved input from a range of providers, including; Leeds Community Healthcare trust, Hull & East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust.
Accreditation of the course is effectively at post graduate level and this will give managers investing in the training the reassurance that the standards of delivery are high.
Sancus director Mick Turner says: “The focus of all Healthcare inquiries is to get to the root cause of why an incident has happened and to enable a full explanation to be given to all those affected. This training will give delegates the confidence and skills to plan and carry out investigations to an enhanced level.”
SFJ Awards Awarding Organisation Manager, Steve Batty says: “Investigating serious incidents in Healthcare requires a high degree of professionalism and standardisation across the sector. This qualification was requested by the Healthcare sector and I am pleased that Sancus Solutions are providing this new qualification which will provide formal recognition for staff who are carrying out investigations into serious incidents and assure employers that their staff have achieved the competence necessary to carry out their role effectively”.
