First learners register for crime qualification

detectivesThe first learners have registered for an innovative qualification specifically designed for detectives.

The 15 learners from Merseyside Police have enrolled on the Level  5 Diploma in Criminal Investigation of Serious and Complex Crime awarded by SFJ Awards.

The qualification, equivalent to a Foundation Degree, recognises the professionalism of those performing the important role of a detective. It has been developed following the initial request of the ACPO North West Region of forces.

Chief Constable of Merseyside, Jon Murphy, said: “We wanted to publicly recognise the learning that our Detectives undergo to achieve the level of professionalism that we require. We strongly believe that the new Diploma, developed by SFJ Awards in conjunction with forces like Merseyside, not only provides the right level of professional accreditation but is cost effective to deliver and reflects the level of learning and development we provide to our Detectives.”

The diploma is now available for police officers to undertake and any police forces who wish to offer this qualification to their staff, or any individuals who wish to enrol on the diploma, should contact SFJ Awards by emailing or by calling 0114 231 7397.
