A number of new qualifications for teachers and trainers have been developed to replace existing certificates and diplomas.
Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS), Certificate to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTTLS) and Diploma in Teaching in the lifelong Learning Sector (DTTLS) will be replaced with the Level 3 Award in Education and Training, the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training and the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training.
The new qualifications all ‘stand alone’ rather than being nested within one another and each one allows for direct entry, without individuals having to take the lower level qualification first.
However, if individuals want to build on their initial training over time, each course is designed to encourage progress to the next level in terms of content.
In addition to these generic qualifications, a range of Level 5 qualifications for specialist areas including English, maths and teaching disabled learners have also been developed.
More information on these new qualifications can be found in the New Qualifications for Teachers and Trainers report.
